We’ve set out some rules for how we make use of Facebook here at Encounter – rules that affect leaders & you guys too. So please check them out below to find out what we do – we wanted you to know these rules so you don’t just think that leaders are being rude and not accepting your friend requests or replying! :
1. Leaders won’t accept friend requests or respond to private messages from under 16s.
2. Some leaders may accept friend requests from over 16s, as they might be involved in areas of leadership or helping out and may need to be contacted.
3. Some leaders may choose to keep their profile totally private and not accept any friend requests from over 16s.
4. Leaders will remove over 16s from their ‘Friends’ list at the first sign of any posts or comments etc. that they feel are unacceptable or make them uncomfortable.
5. Under 16s can join up to, and use, the Encounter Facebook page to get the latest news and to post any questions they have there – a leader will reply through that page to get back to your question! Encounter will provide up to date information through sbyouth.co.uk, our Twitter feed (@encbelfast) or through the Encounter text service.
6. Facebook Messages (Over 16s) – Will be sent to groups rather than individuals. Replies from leaders will include another leader ‘tagged’ into the message or will be sent to a group, rather than to individuals.
7. Some leaders may have some exceptions to the rule – such as family members, family friends etc. as friends.
A Note to you guys:
Above all – please remember to be wise & safe in the way you use social networking. Think before you post things. Think before you accept or send friend requests. Seek to build people up, to be encouraging, not to gossip or hurt others. Remember that the way you use your Facebook profile is a witness to others, so be wise about what goes on it and what you say to others. Keep your login details secure and secret.
Let Jesus shine through it, and use it for good.
