At Encounter it is our desire to see people become, grow and make disciples.
How exactly do you become a disciple of Jesus you may be asking? Well we hope to make that really clear and straight forward for you here. Just have a look below and see what you think…
Firstly you need to realise that you are a messed up person, as is everyone else. This doesn’t mean that you are necessarily a really terrible person in day-to-day life, it just means that you have a lot of mess and sin in your life that was there even before you were born because of the choice that Adam and Eve made back in the beginning when they chose to separate themselves from God. This sin means that it would be impossible for you to connect with God, who is totally perfect and sinless.
Secondly you need to realise that Jesus is the Son of God. You also need to recognise that He was born, lived, died and came to life again so that people don’t have to be separated from God. He bridged the gap that was made, allowing everyone who wants to, to connect with Him.
Thirdly you need to think about it. Consider it deeply and don’t just jump into a rushed decision.
Fourth you’ve got to accept that this has been done for you, thank God for it and say sorry for all the mistakes, bad choices and sin that is keeping you apart from Him.
Finally you need to just go for it! Get stuck in and live in the presence of God, and in the power of the Holy Spirit, serving Him in all that you do so that you give God all the praise…
Here is a prayer that you can use to express to God that you want to follow Him. Feel free to use it and to add your own expression of how you feel, just being honest with Him:
God, I know that I’m a messed up sinful person, like everyone else – but I want to follow you. I’m sorry for all that I’ve done in my life that has kept me far from you, and I want to turn away from it with Your help. I want to thank you that Jesus has made a way for me to have a relationship with You and I ask that You would fill me with the Holy Spirit to help me live my life for Your fame.
Amen (let it be…)
